Help Aida and me build a vegan sanctuary farm for rescued animals

My name is Sergiu. Aida and I share one dream: a small vegan farm in Belgium where rescued animals can live out their whole lives in peace. Animals taken out of bad hands, and hurt animals that need a second chance. They will never be sold, never be bred, and nothing they produce will ever be sold: no meat, no milk, no eggs, no wool. They are not there to earn money. They are there to live.

Around them we want to grow vegetables, fruit and trees, and live as sustainably as we can, with solar panels, a greenhouse, permaculture and composting. I work remotely in cybersecurity and run SevinHub, a small Belgian software business, and Aida works in psychology, so we can both work from the farm and be there for the animals every day.

To be completely honest: today we rent, and this farm does not exist yet. We have looked seriously at farms for sale in Flanders. The best fit so far was a farmhouse on about 1.7 hectares for around 395,000 euro, with a house, a large shed that can become a stable, and room for an orchard, a greenhouse and the animals. We also learned that land zoned only for agriculture is not an option, because you cannot legally live there and care for animals day and night.

Our plan is step by step: first financial stability, then buying the land and home, then starting small with a few rescued animals, and growing the sanctuary only as fast as we can care for every animal properly. Taking in an animal is a promise for its whole life, so we will never take in more than we can look after.
